How to use comparatives and superlatives in Italian

Comparatives are used to compare two things, for example a book is bigger than a pen.
In italian you simply put the word ‘più‘ (more) in front of the adjective and follow the adjective with ‘di‘ (than):
‘a book is bigger than a pen’ becomes ‘un libro è più grande di una penna’.
Simply put, più + adjective + di

Superlatives are used to describe absolutes, for example the biggest book.
In italian you have to use the definite article (il, la, i, or le) in front of the noun followed by ‘più‘ (more) and the adjective. Remember that the article and adjective must agree with the noun:
the biggest book’ becomes ‘il libro più grande‘.
the biggest books‘ becomes ‘i libri più grandi
Simply put, def.art. + noun + più + adjective
